How I've grown

Since coming to Iowa State I have grown in many ways. I am more social than ever, always talking to new people and making new acquaintances. Now that I am at Iowa State I have noticed that my drive to succeed is higher than ever. I never hesitate to try a new experience and do anything to secure success in my future. Living on my own has also helped me grow in responsibility. I can't just throw my dishes in the dish washer and not think about them I actually have to get up and do something about them if I don't want to live in a disgusting room full of mold. Most of all, I think, I have grown in acceptance. In my small town nobody accepted anything that was different. Now that I am in a more diverse community, I have notice that I am much more accepting of peoples' differences and diversities, and actually respect them for it.

Hearing about the Hixson scholarship was very exciting for me. I finally found a scholarship that I had a chance of getting. I began working on my application early, and worked very hard. I knew that this scholarship was my best option for being able to afford to go to college. receiving this award means a lot to me. It is the biggest reason that I am able to study here at Iowa State and train to get a job in my Dream career. The things that come along with the scholarship are amazing as well. Right off the bat they made us feel accepted and gave us a place to go with any question we might have.
