My MBTI type is INTP. We learned what each of these mean individually, and that when you put them together you get a detailed, sometimes more accurate, personality type. Looking at them individually, I wasn't sure if I agreed with my results. However, when I read what they meant together I understood why they were what they were, and agreed with my results more; although not entirely.
The MBTI survey results said that I am an Introvert. This means that I am energized by my inner world, focus on thoughts, that I am reflective, and consider deeply before acting. When doing a self-assessment, I found myself to be an Extravert. I love being around people and draw energy from my surroundings. I am fairly outgoing, active, and rarely think before I act.
My next letter was N. Which stands for Intuitive Perception. This means that when using my intuition, I am seeing possibilities, patterns and meanings, and look at the big picture. I agree with this result. I find myself always looking for possibilities, and never thinking, "There is no way." Instead, I figure out what needs to be done first to make anything a possibility, then do everything I can to do it. I find myself having the most random ideas and hunches out of no where, and try to read between the lines, not just the obvious.
Third on my MBTI type is T. This means that I use logic, am skeptical, and do most of my reasoning by thinking about it. This result is one that I bounce back and forth on. If I am in the class room or doing homework, I agree that I use thinking judgment. However, If I am making a decision in life, I find myself going by how it feels. I apply more personal priorities and go by how it effects me and others. These relate better to F, which stands for Feeling Judgment.
Finally, the last letter in my analysis was P. P stands for Perceiving. This means that I use sensing or intuition outwardly, adapt and change, curious and interested, and open minded. I definitely agree with this result. I like to keep an open mind, and don't want closure if there is more info to obtain. I am a very curious person and even find myself listening to people's conversations creepily.
When combining all of these into INTP it says that I have a reserved outer life, pursue interests in depth, do not follow a routine, am free of emotional issues when working, approach problems by reframing the obvious, value freedom from organizational constraints, and ingenuity. I agree with most of these. However there are a few that I don't feel fit me the best; such as having a reserved outer life. I think of my self as being more extravertive that introvertive.
If I were to pick my personality type I would choose ENFP. I feel like this fits me better. I agree with the meanings that go along with it, such as valuing a life of variety, people, and warm relationships, following my insights, finding meaning behind facts, creativity and originality, an optimistic and enthusiastic view of life, flexibility and openness, as well as the rest of the list on our papers we received. I think the reason I would choose a different type than what was given to me from the survey I took over the summer is because I have changed since coming to college.
Justin, I am a lot like you in the aspect of being a Extravert, I get a lot if energy from others and am pretty outgoing which I think helps a lot in college. It's great that you look at things as always finding a way to figure something out and not just giving up and thinking there is no way, that's a great way to view life! I think it's funny how you say you listen to people's conversations sometimes because I do too, I'm sure many people do it and not many are willing to admit it!
ReplyDeleteThat is a really good observation that the assessment could give you results different from what you think is true about yourself. Changing since coming to college can have a really big impact on this too. Or you could have been having an off day when you took the assessment this summer. As long as you learn something about yourself is all that matters!
